Restorative Environments

Make your space a sanctuary.

Your environment has a powerful impact on your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Let's make that impact a positive one. By using the latest research in environmental psychology, we will redesign your chosen space into a stress-alleviating oasis.

The What

A restorative environment is one that reduces stress, improves health and healing, and reinforces your physical, mental and emotional well-being when you simply spend time in that space. Numerous experiments and research studies show that the qualities of our environment make a huge difference in our lives – they can worsen or improve our physical health; cause, worsen, or alleviate symptoms of mental illness; improve or worsen academic achieve and work performance; and they can even speed up or slow down the healing process from illness or surgery.

By designing your space with restorative principles in mind, you can experience greater quality of health and well-being.

Important Note:

Restorative environmental design provides health benefits primarily through reducing stress. While this can have significant positive impacts in both mental and physical wellness, it is no replacement for proper regimens of medicine and therapy. Our consultations are not medical advice. Seek help from a trained medical professional for serious concerns.

The Why

“Environmental stress” is a form of chronic stress caused by continuous exposure to stressors in the environment, such as noise, pollution, and crowding. Because few people have a choice in where they spend most of their day, if not their lives, environmental stress can be especially difficult to escape. Exposure to this sort of stress can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, mental illness such as depression and anxiety, and the worsening of existing mental health issues, such as in bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Further, our environment affects our ability to function. For example, exposure to chronic noise reduces concentration, which has significant negative impacts on academic achievement and work productivity.

Restorative environments actively restore your motivation and willpower, they relieve you of stress, they improve concentration, and they can even improve your ability to heal from illness and injury. Simply by spending time in restorative environments, you will find your quality of life improves.
